Yesterday, I had an IJ cancel my merits hearing (I-589) for a Kenyan family of 3. We have been waiting for almost 2 years to have this hearing. I show up about 30 minutes ahead of my hearing and as I am walking through the metal detector, get a text from my office to call the Court about my hearing. Walk up to the window only to be told the hearing has been cancelled because the Judge’s morning hearing had run over. It ended at 1:00 when mine was to begin. However, also infuriating was the fact that she had booked another merits hearing for 3:00. Unbelievable! Poor overworked IJ needed lunch instead of hearing my client’s case.
