This job has its plus and minuses, put it that way. Working for a non-profit or a small firm is great. I wrote a blog post once called “Letter to a Young Asylum Lawyer” (I think that is what it was called) and I talked about this issue. If you are in DC and want to meet one day to discuss, let me know. Take care, Jason

I heard of you from NPR (my new addiction), and wanted to ask you if you have any advice for those looking to enter this for a career? I am about to finish up my BA in Social Science, wk full time, and school at night.

I have been trying to find my calling, or at least find a job that would satisfy allll of my callings, and have wanted to, for a long time, start a Human/Civil Rights law practice… now I know without a doubt I want to become an Asylum Lawyer when I grow up (I’m 35y.o. now).

I know I should become a legal assistant, but there are hardly any jobs postings for that. Apart frm getting a law degree, what advice could you offer for those trying to gain experience and get in working with Non Profits helping this cause, while attending school?

Thanks Mrs. DeWitt Sagastume

Just like doctors, your work is very important because you save people’s lives. I will remain grateful to you for helping me during the hardest times in my life. You are not only an amazing lawyer and blogger but also a great friend as well. I was very delighted to hear you on NPR some months ago.

You do. I’m proud to know you. I hope one day in person.
